Corporal John Christian                  April 18, 1979

Corporal Christian was shot and killed while moonlighting as a uniformed security officer at 10:30 pm. He was informed of a robbery in progress and when he attempted to make an arrest he was shot and killed.  The suspect fled but was apprehended in another state. Corporal Christian had served with the Harrisburg Police Bureau for 12 years. He is survived by his wife and three children. He was 35 years old.

Officer Joseph O'Shura                   July 20, 1963                         Officer Barry Karper

Officer O'Shura and Officer Karper were killed in an automobile accident while chasing a stolen vehicle.  The suspect was also killed when he crashed.


Officer Cloyd Hearn                             November 13, 1934

Officer Hearn was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver while on foot patrol on Cameron Street. He had just checked in using the radio call box and stepped into the street to flag down passing officers. The officer did not see him and drove by. Another car then struck Officer Hearn, causing fatal injuries. The driver of the car fled the scene. The man was later identified by committed suicide by lighting himself on fire before he could be arrested.
Officer Hearn had been with the agency for almost seven years and was survived by his wife and four children.


Officer Melvin Kepford                October 30, 1918

Officer Kepford was struck and killed by an automobile at the intersection of 4th and Chestnut Streets at 1745 hours. He was walking into the intersection to direct traffic when he was struck. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries one hour later.
Officer Kepford was survived by his parents and sister.


Officer Lewis Hipple                     June 23, 1916

Officer Hipple was shot and killed while attempting to arrest two men at 5th and Walnut Streets at 0115 hours. One of the suspects broke free fired two shots at Officer Hipple, striking him in the wrist and heart. The suspects fled but one of them was apprehended by a Pennsylvania Railroad patrolman five blocks away. The suspect was sentenced to death and executed on September 17, 1917. Officer Hipple had served with the agency for eight years. He was survived by his wife.

Officer Charles Humphrey         September 5, 1907

Officer Humphrey succumbed to injuries received three days earlier when he was knocked over by a heifer that had gotten loose from a slaughter house at about 1430 hours. Officer Humphrey suffered a skull fracture from hitting the ground.  Officer Humphrey had been with the agency for two years and was survived by his wife and daughter.
